57% of people say they use AI technology daily. But how is it impacting our world? We dive into the full report from Roland Berger.

Artificial intelligence has become inescapable in both our private and public lives. It raises fears, sparks hope, and ignites polarizing debates. But even with all the risks it carries, AI stands as a powerful catalyst for transformation.

Given this context, Roland Berger and Viva Technology sought to answer the question: How deeply will AI transform our daily lives?

This new study is fueled by insights from the community brainstorming event, The Good Hack, which took place at VivaTech in May 2024. The theme: “Navigating AI for a Better Future." 

Roland Berger surveyed more than 14,000 VivaTech participants about their opinions on AI, the major challenges ahead, and how AI can be used to solve societal and environmental problems.

Here are five valuable takeaways from the report:

## 1. High levels of optimism for AI’s potential in health, employment, and the environment, but deep divisions over its influence on democracy.

Roland Berger’s analysis found that AI is already massively used in French society, and the vast majority of people recognize AI's potential to positively impact our world. But few respondents at VivaTech had more than a surface-level understanding of how AI works and the underlying technology that powers it. Still, they were excited about how AI could improve their lives.	
- 57% say they use AI technology daily. Only 5% report never using it.
- 92% anticipate positive effects on Health and Wellbeing, 81% on Employment and Inclusion, and 80% on the Environment.
- Perception of AI's influence on citizen trust and democracy is deeply divided: 48% anticipate a “negative” or “very negative” impact, while 50% foresee a “positive” or “very positive” outcome.

## 2. AI will improve trust in technology, make education more accessible, and increase fairness.

AI is opening the door to a more connected and fairer future by reshaping how we engage with technology and institutions. Here are three of the many ways outlined in the report:

1. AI tools can help governments create more inclusive and effective policies, thereby strengthening public trust.

2. AI is making education more accessible by helping students and educators easily access and organize information.

3. AI reduces biases in hiring by focusing on skills rather than demographic factors.

## 3. AI will drive better quality of life

AI is revolutionizing the healthcare sector. Advancements include analyzing DNA for disease diagnosis and making it easier to develop treatments for rare diseases. In fact, “disease detection and diagnosis support” was the #1 response from The Good Hack participants when asked about the positive effects of AI on health and wellbeing (13%).

The report shares many more ways AI is transforming healthcare including powering [wearable devices](https://www.vivatechnology.com/news/wearables-the-future-of-health-and-wellness) to enable remote patient monitoring and enhancing hospital efficiency.

AI can also improve overall quality of life by playing a key role in climate change solutions, particularly the advancement of decarbonization and accelerating R&D in green technologies.

## 4. AI also poses risks to humans.

While AI holds the potential for many positive breakthroughs, it also carries considerable risks. We are already seeing the negative effects of AI’s influence in these spheres:

- **Misinformation and Manipulation**: AI increases the spread of misinformation, can generate factually incorrect or fabricated information, and can be manipulated to produce harmful or offensive content. 

- **Environmental Impact**: AI models require substantial computing power, leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions. Data centers that support AI computations, also contribute significantly to global electricity demand and carbon emissions. This impact is expected to grow.

- **Job Automation and Inequality**: AI-powered automation poses a risk to many jobs, particularly ones involving repetitive tasks. Women are at a higher risk of job displacement because they work more often in administrative roles. In France alone, 1.4 million jobs could be augmented by AI.

## 5. More regulations are needed to encourage ethical AI development and protect people.

AI technologies carry significant ethical and privacy challenges, and there is an urgent need for regulations. AI's ability to analyze and cross-reference vast amounts of personal data is already leading to privacy violations, such as TikTok's €76 million settlement over unauthorized AI-driven data collection. 

Generative AI has also upended Intellectual Property structures, and the dispute over using copyrighted content to train AI models remains unresolved. Roland Berger’s survey found that “intellectual property” was the #2 response when VivaTech participants were asked about concerns over “AI and Trust.”

3. [The Paris Catacombs](https://www.catacombes.paris.fr/en) - A trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the **largest underground ossuary in the world**, the Catacombs of Paris. This underground route measures 1,500 meters long and 20 meters deep and will take you through an eerie yet historical ride of the underside of Paris. (Pro tip - buy your tickets in advance to make sure you can enter the day of).

4. [Maison de Balzac](https://www.maisondebalzac.paris.fr/en) - La Maison de Balzac houses a museum dedicated to **Honoré de Balzac**, a French writer, located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. First designed as a place of pilgrimage, the museum displays original and illustrated editions of the author’s works, portraits of Balzac, and painted and drawn works illustrating his novels.

## Take a Walk
Even though we’re sure you’ll get your steps in during the four days of VivaTech, it’s important to get some vitamin D and take in the greener parts of Paris. Take a troll in one of these parks **within walking distance** of VivaTech. 

1. [André-Citroën Park](https://www.paris.fr/lieux/parc-andre-citroen-1791) - This park is located on the former site of Citroën Paris factory. Inaugurated in 1992, with an area of **14 hectares**, it is one of the most recent parks in the capital. This futuristic work, created by renowned landscapers and architects, offers a beautiful perspective on the Seine and is the only Parisian green space open directly to the river.

2. [Georges Brassens Park](https://www.paris.fr/lieux/parc-georges-brassens-1805) - This park in the 15th arrondissement of Paris was opened in 1985. It covers an area of **8.7 hectares** on sloping land which housed the Périchaux vineyard in the 18th century. The park’s alleys, which bear the names of some of George Brassen's songs, recall the French singer-songwriter’s memory.

3. [Petite Ceinture du 15e](https://www.paris.fr/lieux/petite-ceinture-du-15e-pc-15-16841) - The Petite Ceinture was a railroad that surrounded Paris in the 1800s. Since 2006, the city of Paris and the SNCF have committed to gradually rehabilitating the Petite Ceinture and opening its spaces to walking. Its route has become an **ecological corridor**, full of wild vegetation where animal species have been able to develop. This stretch of the “little belt” links both the Georges Brassens and André-Citröen Parks.

4. [Ferme Nature Urbaine](https://www.nu-paris.com/) - Not exactly a park, Nature Urbaine is a market garden on the rooftop of Viparis. The farm produces 200 kg of quality fruits and vegetables per day, in a short circuit with local and environmentally friendly agriculture. A total of 14,000m² are designed to offer tasty products. **Visits and workshops** are available from April to September.

Don’t be late because you got off at the wrong metro stop…

Wednesday, 22 May to Saturday, 25 May. **9 AM – 6 PM every day**.

The Paris Porte de Versailles Expo Center in the 15th arrondissement of Paris.

**1 Place de la Porte de Versailles, 75015 Paris, France** 

The main entrance is at Door A1 or A2, where you’ll be asked for your VivaTech badge and ID. Lines can be long at opening hours, so plan accordingly.
### How to get there: 
**Public transport**: Paris is one of the most connected cities in Europe. Take advantage of its expanse transportation system. Get off at the stop “Porte de Versailles”. 
- Metro: Line 12
- Tramway: Lines T2 or T3A
- Bus: Lines 39 or 80

**Bike**: The very first bike parking at VivaTech, sponsored by La Poste, allows visitors to drop off their bikes for free at Porte de Versailles, opposite gates A1 and A2.

**Car**: If you are driving in and need parking, there are three parking lots nearby:
- Onepark - Parking Vanves: 36-38 Rue du Moulin, 92170 Vanves
- Parking VIP - Paris Expo Porte de Versailles: Ave. de la Porte de la Plaine, 75015 Paris

## #4 What to Bring?
Your **printed** VivaTech badge! If you haven't downloaded your badge, find it in your personal account on the VivaTech website. There are printing stations at the event entrance, however wait times are lengthy at opening times so we suggest printing it out before arriving. Also, don’t forget **your ID**, as it will be asked for at the entrance to verify your identity. 

VivaTech is happening in 2 Halls of the expo center, meaning there is a lot of ground to cover. One of the biggest tips we hear from attendees is to wear comfortable shoes! Leave those heels at home.

## #5 On-Site Experience
### Accessibility 
VivaTech is fully accessible for people with reduced mobility. An information desk is located at the entrance of Hall 1 to help provide information and wheelchairs. Volunteers are also there to guide you to the various PRM elevators, etc.
### Leave your luggage
Luggage can’t come into VivaTech with you, but smaller bags like backpacks and briefcases are welcome and will be checked at the entrance. There is a luggage check outside gate A2 for the jet setters who have just arrived.
### Get Oriented
Once inside, use the VivaTech app to get orientated with your surroundings. If you need help, head to the Grand Central at the heart of VivaTech where hosts can give you information on locations, conference schedule, app help, and more.
### Get Connected
Connect to our attendee Wi-Fi network for free. Use the network “VT-VISITORS” once inside the expo center, no password needed.
### What’s for lunch?
There is an array of restaurants and catering around the VivaTech Halls to make sure our attendees are fueled up and ready for the day. 
Outside the VivaTech doors is a Food Court made up of restaurants and an alley of food trucks to purchase your lunch and drinks. From French sandwiches to Lebanese, Thai, or Italian cuisine, there is a little something for everyone.
### Side Events
VivaTech is more than two Halls at Porte de Versailles. It’s also a constellation of side events happening throughout Paris. To make a good return on that investment it’s important to prepare as much as you can beforehand.“Exhibitors can expect to have about 5 solid business conversations every hour at VivaTech,” Ruben&nbsp;told us. To make sure you don’t miss the right people, create goals and targets before the event.Goals should be specific, such as finding 3 partners or recruiting 6 new hires so you can follow if you’re on track. Identify key individuals or groups to meet, such as press, existing clients, or new leads.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h3>Marketing &amp; Sales&nbsp;</h3>Effective marketing and sales strategies before, during, and after the event are crucial. Let your network know what’s happening at VivaTech with newsletters, social media, and press releases. “You could even invite prospective clients to VivaTech so you can offer demos of your product,” Ruben&nbsp;revealed.Once VivaTech is over it’s time to follow up with those leads. When is the best time$4 “2-3 days after the last day of VivaTech is the perfect time to reach out,” suggested Ruben. Enough time for people to return home, but not enough for them to forget you. You want a mix of quality and quantity. Exhibitors need to talk to enough people, or else it won’t be worth your time. But you also need to be talking to the right people. Which is why establishing your target audience beforehand is important,” said Ruben.What to do if an attendee won’t leave your booth$5 “Hand them a brochure. Tell them ‘I could talk about my product/service for hours, but you’ll find all the information you need here!’” he suggested.One final tip$6 “Write notes on the business cards you receive. Photo credit: VivaTech<h2>How to Pitch Like a Rockstar</h2>From a pitch’s content to how to deliver it, let’s master startup pitching from Lorenzo Croati.&nbsp;<h3>Content of Pitch</h3>A pitch is a short and impactful presentation that aims to make the audience feel something, convince, retain attention, influence, and motivate.&nbsp;What people will remember from your presentation is derived from 20% verbal and 80% nonverbal elements. “People remember how you make them feel, if you were energetic or passionate about your subject,” Lorenzo&nbsp;told us.&nbsp;To break down your pitch, separate it into 4 blocks:<ol><li>Explain how BIG the problem is that you are trying to solve.</li><li>Describe your solution. Give more information about your startup, or demo your product.</li><li>Clarify the feasibility of your solution. How will it come about financially, technically, legally, or environmentally$8</li><li>Talk about the why. Tell your story and why you launched your startup, your vision, convictions, etc.</li></ol>“In between each of these 4 blocks, stop talking for 3 seconds,” Lorenzo&nbsp;explained. “This will help you slow down and will allow the listener to digest information.”&nbsp;<h3>Writing the Pitch</h3>One minute of speech is equal to 120 words. “When writing the pitch, it should use positive language and avoid negative words except when describing the problem,” Lorenzo&nbsp;suggested.&nbsp;Include precise metrics throughout the pitch and repeat them often so your listener retains them.&nbsp;For an event like VivaTech, create a presentation that is not overwhelming with excessive information. Focus on simple sentences and clear visuals. “You want to avoid a death by PowerPoint. It’s better to have a lot of slides with less text than a few slides with too much information,” Lorenzo&nbsp;reminded.&nbsp; &nbsp;<h3>Form &amp; Rhythm</h3>Lorenzo&nbsp;emphasized the importance of posture, energy, pauses, and smiles (PEPS) during presentations. “Incorporate non-verbal elements into your written pitch and practice them beforehand,” he said. Practice makes perfect.&nbsp;“Smiling can create mirror neurons,” he said “The listener will start smiling if you are smiling. It will make an impact and leave the listener with a positive impression of your pitch.”One final tip$9 “Get your listener to say yes multiple times throughout your pitch. And learn to read people – you can see in their eyes when they get bored. Once you catch people's attention, you have a minute, max. You meet so many startups that you could do partnerships with. Since it's a very large event, it's hard to catch speakers walking in the aisles. But you can try to catch them after their talk and interact with them. That is networking. Connect in any way you can from the VivaTech App, to LinkedIn, to physically going and talking to them. It is powerful.”&nbsp;- Karina Ingerslev, Growth Director of Ridecell&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2>#6 Plan for the Details</h2>“First, make sure you bring enough people from your team. There are so many people passing by, you need to be able to talk to them all. Second, wear tennis shoes. It might sound silly, but it’s in the details. Thirdly, plan to have a team doing all the background stuff like marketing, communication, and taking photos. You won’t have enough time to do it all. Lastly, rest up beforehand! It’s a long 4 days, but you won’t be finished when it’s over.
