Orange strategic plan Lead the future_ with its four pillars is a springboard to boost Generative AI usages. Two playgrounds are already addressable to generate value thanks to open innovation: the customer experience and the “platformization” of the telecom operators. 
As we chart a course towards an innovative future, our first focus is on harnessing Generative AI in the realm of marketing to redefine and enhance products and services. Our goal is to deepen customer engagement, going beyond traditional expectations in today’s dynamic digital world. 
As a telecom operator we have a second focus to revisit our technology function relying on Generative AI. Our goal is to reinvent the usual processes to install and operate our technology resources, by introducing new capabilities to improve these processes. 
Orange has adopted a Data and Artificial Intelligence Ethical Charter that paves the way of responsible AI approach. EDF Pulse Ventures, the corporate venture capital of EDF Group, and EDF Pulse Connect, its open innovation platform, organize a common challenge on WaterTech.

Freshwater use, one of the 9 planetary boundaries, was transgressed in 2022. As tensions crystallize around the allocation of the water resource, we can all play our part in reducing our water footprint, by reusing it and alleviating the pressure on freshwater resources.

Catalyzing sustainable water footprint

Context / Need: 
EDF is looking for startups able to help reduce water footprint, with a high potential of synergies with the Group. 

Expected Solutions: 

We are interested in mature BtoB technologies (level 5 minimum) in WaterTech, and more specifically in water metrology, water reserve forecast, water purification, industrial reuse & reut, desalination. 


Scope: 
WaterTech

The selected startup should have : 

• Geography: Europe (incl Israël) and North America 

• Maturity: Technology Readiness Level 5 minimum (meaning past the demonstration pilot stage) 

• Business Model: BtoB 

• Solutions' ownership: Must own its IP (or have exclusive access to it) 

• WaterTech area of interest: water metrology, water reserve forecast, water purification, industrial reuse & reut, desalination 

• Potential of synergies with the EDF Group: co development, R&D, white labelling, expansion to a new market

This Challenge is addressing the following topics:

Innovations that can help reduce the environmental footprint from the production and sale of energy including for example the distribution or transmission of energy, grid management and energy storage. 

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;- Mobility and Transport: 
Innovations that can help reduce the environmental footprint from the movement of people or goods, including Electric Vehicles, Zero-emission aviation and shipping or low carbon fuels.  

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;- Food and Agriculture: 
Innovations that can help reduce the environmental footprint from the production of food or other agricultural products. Examples of innovations include precision farming, robotics, ag-Biotech solutions, regenerative agriculture, food waste reduction. 

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;- Carbon Removal: 
Carbon removal innovations including for example enhanced soil carbon sequestration, direct air capture and storage, enhanced mineralization or Hydro-carbon fuels. 

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;- Built Environment: 
Innovations in the domain of building materials, heating and cooling, energy efficiency and construction. Material-efficient design, reductions in material waste, replacement of high-carbon materials with low-carbon options. 

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;- Industrial and Manufacturing: 
Technologies contributing to reducing GHG emissions in hard to abate sectors such as cement, steel or chemicals and innovations improving manufacturing efficiency such as circular economy models or waste management.

Solutions that can help collect and analyze climate-related data to facilitate GHG performance management, risk mitigation and GHG accounting and reporting. Solutions that can expand access to financial services among underserved communities, promote financial inclusion and financial literacy, and improve the efficiency of the banking infrastructure.

Solutions such as telemedicine/online consultations and other digital solutions that promote easy and affordable access to health services. Innovations also include e-learning solutions for clinical and managerial medical personnel.

Solutions that can help monitor health information and support health diagnostics.
