VivaTech 2025 is around the corner, and the AfricaTech Awards are back again this year.

African tech startups are driving solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges, but many still struggle to access the funding and support needed to scale. The AfricaTech Awards aim to close that gap by shining a spotlight on breakthrough innovators and connecting them with top investors, mentors, and industry leaders.

This year, the awards will once again recognize standout startups in three key sectors: E-Commerce & FinTech, ClimateTech, and HealthTech. You can find the full list of top 45 startups in our press release.

E-Commerce & FinTech

E-commerce and fintech are transforming everyday life in Africa and unlocking access to goods, services, and financial tools. 15 startups have made it to the final round, empowering individuals and businesses to participate more fully in the digital economy. Now, we'll highlight 3 to take a look at.

Regxta

Regxta is a Nigerian fintech startup offering an inclusive digital platform to provide easy access to financial services for unbanked individuals and micro-businesses across rural and peri-urban communities across Africa. This company uses an agency banking model to enable users to open accounts, save money, and access loans through trained community agents.

Kamioun

Kamioun is a Tunisian e-commerce startup that helps mom-and-pop corner shops and retailers with reliable supply, lower costs, and easy restocking. Using a mobile platform, these users are connected with fast-moving consumer goods manufacturers and have access to competitive prices and free next day delivery. This helps these small businesses streamline their operations and manage their logistics.

PressPayNg

PressPayNg is a Nigerian startup and Africa's leading edfintech platform, with the objective of reducing dropout rates and supporting human capital development. Their platform provides seamless access to services to make education more accessible and affordable for students and parents. They offer services such as education banking and financing solutions including savings plans, loans, scholarship opportunities, and crowdfunding.

Climate Tech

From sustainable agriculture to early warning systems for natural disasters, startups across Africa are pioneering creative ways to safeguard the planet and drive sustainable progress. Out of this year's 15 climate tech finalists, we're spotlighting three standout startups that are making a big impact on a continent disproportionately affected by climate change.

CABAX Farms

CABAX Farms is a Nigerian agritech startup focused on sustainable agriculture and renewable energy. The company delivers eco-friendly palm oil and biofuel solutions, as well as consulting services in agricultural technology and cleantech.

FLOEWS

FLOEWS is a Nigerian climatetech startup dedicated to mitigating the impacts of climate change-induced natural disasters such as flooding across vulnerable communities. Using AI, FLOEWS provides real-time forecasting and early warning intelligence as actionable insights for individuals, businesses, and governments.

Munakyalo Agrofresh

Munakyalo Agrofresh is a Ugandan agritech startup that tackles post-harvest losses in Sub-Saharan Africa by providing solar-powered cooling hubs, called Cold Hives, as well as MunaFresh®, a plant-based edible coating, to extend the shelf life of perishable produce to up to three weeks. They make their Cold Hives affordable and accessible in farming communities, helping to eliminate unnecessary food loss.

HealthTech

Healthtech startups in Africa are using technology to address gaps in healthcare access and quality across the continent. From clean water solutions to disease diagnostics, let's take a look at 3 of the 15 finalists who are making medical services more affordable, efficient, and accessible.

SafeSip Limited

SafeSip Limited is a Tanzanian startup that produces a straw with a three-stage filter that removes 99.99% of pathogens, can filter 1,500 liters, reduces waterborne diseases by 30%, replaces 1,500 plastic bottles, and cuts CO2 emissions. The cost? A 5 dollar straw. By creating these straws from recycled ocean plastic, they address issues of water contamination, especially in rural communities, while also showing a commitment to sustainability and the environment.

Natal Cares

Natal Cares is a Nigerian startup that uses mobile technology, machine learning, and low-cost innovation to combat maternal and infant mortality. They offer personalized healthcare information via SMS, providing guidance on prenatal and postnatal care for expectant and new mothers. The startup also distributes comprehensive delivery kits equipped with essential supplies to ensure safe and hygienic childbirth and focuses on training traditional birth attendants and local midwives.

Reme-D

Reme-D is an Egyptian healthtech startup focusing on the availability and affordability of diseases diagnostics in Africa and the Global South, by locally developing and manufacturing diagnostic tests using proprietary technology that makes them suitable for use in limited-resource settings. These kits are designed to be user-friendly, require minimal laboratory equipment, and deliver results significantly faster than traditional methods.
