About Me

Stephen brings over 25 years of deep expertise in data management, sustainability, and business transformation within the SAP ecosystem. Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles across SAP, consulting firms, and industry, where he has been at the forefront of driving innovation and aligning business operations with sustainable practices. His ability to bridge the gap between technology and sustainability has made him a trusted advisor for businesses seeking to integrate responsible practices into their core operations. In his current role as the leader of product marketing for SAP Sustainability, Stephen is responsible for guiding the strategic growth of SAP’s sustainability portfolio. He is dedicated to helping businesses across industries transition to more sustainable models by adopting ERP-centric, cloud-based solutions that are powered by AI. Under his leadership, SAP’s sustainability offerings empower companies to drive low-carbon, circular, and inclusive business practices, ensuring regulatory compliance and enhancing operational efficiencies while opening new pathways for growth. Stephen is also a recognized thought leader and advocate for the future of plastics. Beyond his work at SAP, he serves as a key spokesperson for the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, collaborating with industry leaders to shape policies that support a sustainable future. His work with the coalition is focused on advocating for global regulations and empowering businesses to eliminate plastic pollution by 2040. Through this initiative, he plays an instrumental role in driving systemic change in the global plastics industry, aiming to create a world where businesses can thrive while mitigating their environmental impact.

The New York Times Debate: Is AI the New Plastic?

Remember when plastic was everything? The golden ticket to cheaper manufacturing, maximum profit and easier living? Turns out the saying is true: Nothing comes without a price; and the world has paid its weight, now, in environmental devastation and a plastic island the size of a small continent floating around the Pacific. Some argue that the same will be true of artificial intelligence. It has been hailed as the most transformative technology since the internet, and could have huge benefits for battling climate change, industries, government and more. But concerns are piling up. The amount of energy required to build AI is already harming the planet more than helping it and big questions are being asking about its potential impact on society and ethical concerns. Will the benefits of AI outweigh its costs?
