Since her appointment as Equality Minister on January 10th 2024, Aurore Bergé is in charge of the fights against racism and antisemitism, the fight against sexism and sexual violence, the protection of LGBT+ rights, in addition to the promotion of women's health, equal access to healthcare and pay equality.
It is her second term as Minister, after a first mandate as Minister for Solidarity and Families of the government lead by Élisabeth Borne.
Aurore Bergé is one of the executives of Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance party, acting as General delegated Secretary and former spokesperson of the party. She was an MP from 2017 to 2023, and since 2021 an elected member of the regional council of Ile-de-France, the largest French region by population. In June 2022, she was appointed majority whip of the National Assembly, the lower chamber of the French Parliament.
As the first female whip in France, Aurore Bergé has been a vocal advocate for gender equality, female leadership and women's health. She has been a long-term supporter of the legalization of same-sex marriage, and of an improved access to assisted reproductive services. As both an MP and as Minister, she has promoted the French legacy with regards to abortion rights. In October 2022, she introduced a constitutional bill to enshrine abortion in the French Constitution and safeguard abortion as an inalienable right.
She is currently steering the national French strategy against racism and antisemitism and its implementation, partnering with local governments, social educators and law enforcement agencies. Over the last few years, Aurore Bergé has signed numerous declarations calling for actions against the renewal of antisemitism, and after October 7th has publicly condemned the atrocities by Hamas terrorists and encouraged civil society organizations to counter antisemitism and all forms of hatred.
