About Me

Joëlle Barral is a Senior Director of Research & Engineering at Google DeepMind, leading a global team advancing the frontiers of foundational AI research and applying AI to life sciences and healthcare. She joined Google in 2014 and spearheaded Verb Surgical, a joint venture between Verily and Johnson & Johnson, building an AI-augmented surgical robotics platform. After two decades in California, Joëlle is now based in Paris. She holds an MS in Maths/Physics from École Polytechnique and a PhD in EE from Stanford University.
