Vera Zakem is a Global Policy and Technology Executive, leading initiatives on responsible use of technology and innovation to ensure we develop, deploy, and scale technology that serves the public interest. Appointed by Governor Newsom, currently, Vera serves as California's Chief Technology Innovation Officer, leading the responsible strategy, technology, and governance agenda for the state of California. Previously, Vera served as USAID's first Chief Digital Democracy and Rights Officer, where she built responsible technology and democracy agenda, AI strategy, and governance models. Prior, Vera was in Silicon Valley, leading on strategy, research, and innovation to ensure technology supports democracy.
