About Me

James Martin is a recognised authority on technology’s environmental and social impacts. Passionate about making technology more responsible, he founded a publication devoted to this topic, BetterTech.blog, in 2018. James speaks regularly at leading conferences, about the impact of AI in particular (ChangeNOW, VivaTech, XYZ Paris) and about that of technology in general (Green IO, IT Partners) as well as through his blog, bylines (e.g. Maddyness) and LinkedIn. James previously served as Head of Content and Sustainability Communications at French cloud provider Scaleway (iliad Group). He rapidly put Scaleway on the map as a responsible tech pioneer, notably via the Green IT-focused white paper “How can engineers make tech more sustainable?” He also wrote Scaleway’s annual Impact Reports. James is also a member of GenAI Impact/Data for Good, a Green Software Foundation champion; a “pro” level facilitator of emissions-reduction workshops 2tonnes; and an accomplished journalist.
