Why Territories are Key at VivaTech

With more than 150 different nationalities represented at VivaTech, geographic territories have taken on increasing importance. In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and related crises, countries, public institutions and international organizations are an important part of the equation to foster innovative solutions for people and planet.
Each year, VivaTech hosts more than 20 countries pavillions, which came to put in the spotlight their startups and their territories' attractivity.

Two Important Regional Pillars for VivaTech 2021
The 2021 program of VivaTech features two important regional pillars: AfricaTech and EuropaTech. AfricaTech brings out the best of African innovation, and showcases specific initiatives from this booming tech ecosystem. EuropaTech acts as a catalyst for European tech initiatives, fostering bridges between Europe and the rest of the world, and helping scale-ups and unicorns grow beyond European borders.

Startups Challenges

A startup challenge is a way to promote open innovation, with startups pitching their solutions for specific problems. In 2020 more than 10,000 startups took part in the challenges, with 65% coming from outside France. The Startup Challenges organized by our main partners may be showcased by a particular territory during VivaTech. At the same time, some of the territories present at VivaTech 2021 have opted to launch their own Startup Challenges.

Official Delegations

Territories and International Institutions come each year with their official delegations. Within the EuropaTech program, we had the visit of the G7 of digital. Within the AfricaTech program, we had the pleasure to welcome, among others, Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda; Macky Sall, President of Senegal; and Dominique Migisha, Tech Adviser to the Presidency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
