About Me

Takuya Fukumoto has been the Deputy Director-General for Innovation Policy since July 2024, having joined the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in 1996. He holds master’s degrees in economics and economic philosophy from the London School of Economics. Mr. Fukumoto served as Director of Corporate Accounting, Disclosure, and CSR policy from July 2012, where he worked on corporate governance and stakeholder communication, notably the "Ito Review Project" in 2014. In July 2015, he became Director of the Industrial Finance Division and led the "J-Startup" initiative to promote Japanese startups globally. He was a Board Member of the Japan Investment Corporation from 2019 and Chief Strategy Officer for three years. From July 2022, he oversaw science, technology, and environmental policies as Director of the Policy Planning and Coordination Division. Most recently, he was Director of the Business Process Re-engineering Division since July 2023
